AGE REQUIREMENT

Membership starts as early as the year an individual turns five (5) and moves up to the Master's Group (you are never too old).

TRAINING PROGRAM

There is a general agreement among track and field coaches that early specialization is not beneficial. The general philosophy of Junior Development (ages 5-25) emphasizes a wide range of skills and promotes improved general fitness, flexibility, and coordination. Club athletes are introduced to a complete range of track and field events and are encouraged to participate in cross-country running. Athletes above age 12, on the advice of their coaches, may train for a narrower range of events. The Roadrunners training program operates year-round.

RULES & REGULATIONS

Rules and regulations are enforced for the benefit of every athlete. The BAAA’s rules and Roadrunners By-Laws, Regulations, and Standards help to create fair and safe competitions. Meets in The Bahamas are held under the IAAF competition rules.

UNIFORMS

Each Roadrunner is expected to participate in meets wearing the Club uniform.

INSURANCE

Roadrunners provide liability coverage for events, which is necessary to satisfy permits for the use of venues. Individual members receive accident insurance, which covers them against any accidents &/or injuries that may be sustained while participating in and/or traveling directly to and from BAAA’s sanctioned events.

CORE MEASUREMENTS & RECORD KEEPING

Official record-keeping is carried out to ensure that athlete’s personal stats are accurately recorded. BAAA Certified coaches set timing standards and maintain running records to ensure consistency, accuracy, and legitimacy.

REPRESENTATION IN ROAD RUNNERS AFFAIRS

All Roadrunners members are strongly encouraged to become involved in the organization’s events. All members have an equal opportunity to voice their opinions and become active in the Club’s policy-making by exercising their right to vote.

FINANCES

The club is independent and self-supporting. It receives no regular financial or material assistance from outside bodies, private or public. It keeps membership fees as low as possible. A substantial deficit each year is made up through fund-raising and sponsoring of sporting events. Major annual re-occurring expenses include sports equipment, meet entries, athletes and coach’s travel, and facilities.

ROLE OF PARENTS IN THE CLUB

Most executive, coaching and committee positions in the club are filled by parents. All parents who enroll in the Roadrunners Track & Field Club are welcomed to volunteer assistance with fund raising activities and track meets.  They are also to reinforce the efforts of our coaches by encouraging athletes to show respect and diligence during practice.

PERSONAL GOAL

Every Roadrunner athlete is encouraged to keep a record of his or her performance in each event. The primary emphasis in club training and competition is improvement in an athlete’s Personal Best (PR). Recognition and respect for individuality and personal achievement by the coaches, officials, and parents ensure that athletes of all levels of ability make steady progress.
